WORKING WITH THE BODY: Discovering Meaning in Physical Symptoms, Chronic Illness, and Trauma

Emetchi, MPW

July 6-9, 2012: 10am-5pm each day (one hour lunch break)

  • Discounted Early Registration: $440
  • Full Course Fee after June 25th: $480

The body speaks to us in many ways, giving rise to signals and experiences that we may overlook or find difficult to understand or embrace. If the body and its language are attended to, we find a world of information held within that expression. It is possible to access the deep meaning of short-lived body experiences, chronic symptoms, or trauma-related physical reactions through the use of process-oriented tools and techniques, which can then be applied in everyday life.

In this intensive training in body work we will be learning how to:

  • Recognize and unfold signals
  • Use hands-on methods for accessing deeper body wisdom
  • Find meaning in symptoms and trauma that relate to our individual and community path through life
  • Explore experience using awareness tools and practices

This course will include theory, demonstrations, skill-building exercises, case studies, and inner work. It will be of interest to all those wanting to explore their own body experiences, professionals working in the field of bodywork, illness and trauma, medical staff, and those who have family members or loved ones suffering from illness or trauma.

BRIDGING PARALLEL WORLDS: A Process Work Approach to Working with

Altered and Extreme States of Consciousness

Joe Goodbread Ph.D., with Will Hall MPW

July 10-13, 2012: 10am-5pm each day (one hour lunch break)

  • Discounted Early Registration: $440
  • Full Course Fee after June 29th: $480

Altered states of consciousness are part of everyday life. Some, like love, joy, anxiety and sadness come and go like the tides. More extreme states take us to parallel worlds of experience from which return to everyday reality can be challenging. Getting stuck in any state of consciousness, whether pleasant or unpleasant, for too long can be disturbing to our daily responsibilities and relationships. In this seminar, we will explore everyday reality and altered and extreme states as parallel worlds that are potentially accessible to one another at anytime, anywhere by anyone. We will explore attitudes and methods based on Process Work for developing a more fluid relationship between these worlds, giving us access to both the predictable stability of the everyday world as well as the spice, adventure and creativity promised by altered states.

This course is appropriate for those interested in exploring their own states of consciousness, as well as those interested in an introduction to process work as an adjunct to other therapeutic methods  for working with altered states.

BULLYING:  Exploring Dynamics of Power, Marginalization, and Revenge

Ingrid Rose, Ph.D, with Suzette Payne M.A.

July 14-17, 2012: 10am-5pm each day (one hour lunch break)

  • Discounted Early Registration: $440
  • Full Course Fee after July 3rd: $480

This course will provide an opportunity to explore dynamics of bullying from a process-oriented viewpoint. Different aspects of bullying situations found in schools, workplace, and family life will be focused on in order to learn more about them. The various roles that occur in bullying contexts will be unfolded so that we gain an understanding of underlying influences, and through theory, exercises and group interaction we will discover more about the diversity of experience in the field.

Victimization is seen to occur when an individual (or group) is exposed repeatedly and over time to negative and destructive actions on the part of one or more other individuals or groups. Gaining awareness of how we may perpetrate, react to, intervene in, ignore, or prevent these actions, and what promotes our responses, will be a focus. The course will also:

  • Improve our understanding of the roles within the bullying situation and our ability to respond to them
  • Develop a toolkit to aid in processing bullying situations
  • Provide first-hand experience by introducing case studies and facilitating group exploration of related issues within the learning group
  • Discover the social meaning inherent in bullying situations in order to intervene in useful ways both from preventive and interactive positions
  • Explore the structure and dynamics present in bullying situations from individual, relationship and systemic perspectives

This training will be of interest to professionals such as counselors, psychologists, social workers, teachers, administrators, business executives, managers, employees, family members and individuals who have experienced bullying situations in various contexts or would like to learn more about the topic. It will also provide an opportunity for self-development.
